does project runway deserve to get the bravo bitch-slap?

it’s been pretty well-documented that this season of project runway has been completely under-promoted by bravo. the usual pr push wasn’t there. no nyc billboards. no internet push. no four season marathon sessions for weeks and weeks. in fact, the only thing you really heard about the new season of project runway was the slug of bloggers bitching about how there’s been no press for the show.

by now, we’ve also all heard about project runway’s move to lifetime for season six (and beyond). harvey weinstein sold the show for more money, without giving bravo the opportunity to renegotiate their contract. and while bravo is suing over this whole battle, the decision will probably stay. bye bye bravo, hello lifetime.

as this is the last season bravo has with project runway, some suspect the lack of promotion is deliberate. ew states, “…bravo is trying to sabotage the show before it heads to lifetime next season – a way of getting back at producer harvey weinstein for taking away their banner hit.” project runway completely denies that, explaining they were just trying to maintain the secrecy of the show. but does anyone really believe them?

personally, i fully support the lack of pr for season five. and you know what – i hope it is bravo’s way of sticking it to harvey weinstein. i love project runway – but the move over to lifetime just doesn’t feel right. from “watch what happens” to “television for women?” i can’t get behind it. the fact that it’s going to be filmed in la… the fact that tori spelling will probably guest judge… the fact that episodes are going to air between lifetime original movies no one would tell and she cried no (both staring candace cameron!!). i can’t.

no wonder they’ve given more of a pr push to shear genius. they’re not going anywhere!

besides, the premiere was totally boring.

And judging from the previews of next week, I’m thinking that they’re putting down the designers a lot more too. “Slackers,” “boring,” etc — no talk like last time (and every reality show)about how this new cast is the best one yet. They’re trying to sink it before it goes, definitely, and I don’t feel bad for lifetime.
